Tool And Task Design Challenges For Left Handers: A Brief Review

    Get PDF
Left-handed users are often overlooked by equipment and hand tool designers. Designers may assume that left handers will eventually learn to adapt themselves in a right-handed environment. However in reality left handers face a lot of difficulties when trying to perform tasks meant for right-handed users. Medical personnel are most affected by this issue, followed by workers in non-medical field such as services and manufacturing. This review aims to highlight the issues faced left handers by analysing common household product examples as well as hand tools in occupational settings. Discussions are centred on the differences between the right-handed tools versus left-handed tools, as well as task/procedural challenges faced by left handers. In summary, the notion of designing an ambidextrous tool may not be a realistic recommendation for tool manufacturers and designers

Enhanced Self-Regulation Nonlinear PID For Industrial Pneumatic Actuator

    Get PDF
The present article describes the improvement of Self-regulation Nonlinear PID (SN-PID) controller. A new function is introduced to improve the system performance in terms of transient without affecting the steady state performance. It is used to optimize the nonlinear function available on this controller. The signal error is reprocessed through this function, and the result is used to tune the nonlinear function of the controller. Furthermore, the presence of the dead zone on the proportional valve is solved using Dead Zone Compensator (DZC). Simulations and experiments were carried out on the pneumatic positioning system. Comparisons between the existing methods were examined and successfully demonstrated

Design Of An Internet Of Things Based Electromagnetic Robotic Arm For Pick And Place Applications

    Get PDF
In this generation, industrial robotic arm has been widely used in fields separated from the human society. It is limited because it is not possible to manipulate and interact with people. To depict robotics technology with human-machine interaction and wireless communication, interactivity is possible in real time with virtual objects that makes some other technology needs to be developed which maximizes robot use to assist people with their work in an efficient way. The main objective of this project is to develop and design an interface of Internet of Things controller for robotic arm. The main purpose of making this interface is to remotely control the robotic arm using internet facilities. The robotic arm has four servo motor where all servo motor are assigned with single pulse width modulation which can be control separately. Furthermore, the NodeMCU board was used to receive signal from the Blynk app that authorizes monitoring and controlling the movement of the robotic arm to perform pick and place operations. Meanwhile, the results of this study are verified through manual test implementation. Two type of manual test were done for this project that is pick and place application and time delay to send the data. The pick and place operation of the robotic arm was observed to see whether the robotic arm capable to conduct the instruction precisely to move within their desired angular displacement degree. The time delay to send the data shows that the respond at each of the servo motor to move 180 degrees with no load was influenced by the Wi-Fi signal strength at particular places. Hence, this prototype of the robotic arm showed that the operational to control the robotic arm to perform pick and place application using internet facilities was successful

Bio-Physics Concept For Camera Vision Hypothesis Of Colour White

    Get PDF
In the myriad of colours, black and white are strange colours to be discussed. Since black (the colour that one perceives) is not in the Electromagnetic (EM) spectrum, it is duly suggested that black is an interpretation of the brain in which the existing “no signal” concept is also discussed in the article. The same goes to the colour white, it is not in the EM spectrum too, so it is also duly proposed as an interpretation of the brain. The concept of white as combination of colour is also discussed in the article. It is insignificant to discuss about both these colours of their existence in the reflection of colour representation since their non-existent in EM spectrum is similar to the colour pink or magenta. There is a hypothesis (for white light colour theory test) at the end of this article, the authors welcome any scientists or engineers or researcher all over the world to assess, deliberate and prove the truth of this theory

Modelling And Simulation Of A Wind Turbine With Doubly Fed Induction Generator In Full Load Operation

    Get PDF
The paper focuses on modelling and simulation of a 5 MW wind turbine with doubly fed induction generator (DFIG) in full load operation. The wind turbine model is described mathematically and presented in simulation blocks. Through a computer simulation, the wind turbine behavior in full load operation is investigated. A speed controller is used to adjust the pitch angle of a rotor blade in high wind speed to limit the wind energy captured by the turbine to the nominal power value. By adjusting the pitch angle to 18.26° at wind speed 20 m/s, the wind turbine is protected from mechanical damage due to torque and power limitation. The simulation results obtained can be used as references for future optimization for the variable speed wind turbine operation

Distribution Of Attempted Leader With Monsoon Seasons And Negative Cloud-To-Ground Flashes In Melaka, Malaysia

    Get PDF
Ninety (90) waveforms recognized as attempted leader were identified with both positive (84 events) and negative (6 events) initial polarity observed from four consecutive years of data (N=10,206). The positive attempted leader shows no correlation with the number of thunderstorms producing it during monsoon. Meanwhile, the negative attempted leader during monsoon and both polarity of attempted leader (positive and negative) during inter-monsoon shows positive correlation with the number of thunderstorms producing it. In this study, the yearly statistical distribution of negative cloud-to-ground (CG) lightning flashes which were classified as positive preliminary breakdown pulses (214 events) and negative preliminary breakdown pulses (4982 events) in accordance of their preliminary polarity were also presented. In addition, there is no relationship of attempted leader and the initial breakdown of negative ground flash since both mechanisms performed as a negative correlation

Algorithm visualization which is a form of high-level dynamic visualization of software that uses user interface techniques to portray and monitor the computational steps of algorithms. Moreover, algorithm visualization systems are also useful tools in algorithm engineering, particularly at several stages during the design, implementation, analysis, tuning, experimental evaluation, and presentation of the algorithms process. Algorithms are a captivating use case for visualization. It does not simply fit data to a chart to visualize an algorithm, there is no main data set. Rather there are consistent principles that depict conduct. This is because algorithm visualizations are so uncommon, as designer's experiment with novel forms to better communicate. Algorithm visualization (AV) uses graphics to portray an algorithm's actions. AV holds the promise of helping computer science students understand algorithms more effectively and in more prominent profundity. The purpose of this study is to design a system for sorting algorithm visualization and implement the system

A pneumatic actuator is a device that converts compressed air into mechanical energy to perform varieties of work. It exhibits high nonlinearities due to high friction forces, compressibility of air and dead band of the spool movement which is difficult to manage and requires an appropriate controller for better performance. The purpose of this study is to review the controller design of pneumatic actuator recommended by previous researchers from the past years. Initially, the basic views of the pneumatic will be presented in terms of introduction to the pneumatic actuator and its applications in industries. At the end of this review, discussions on the design of the controllers will be concluded and further research will be proposed along with the improvement of control strategies in the pneumatic actuator systems

Particle swarm optimization algorithm to enhance the roughness of thin film in tin coatings

    Get PDF
Nowadays, lots of disciplines require optimization to determine optimal parameters to accomplish top quality services which include parameters optimization of thin film coating. Modification of sharp tool characteristics and costs are two primary matters in the procedure of Physical Vapour Deposition (PVD). The purpose of this study is to figure out the optimal parameters in PVD coating process for better thin-film roughness. Three input parameters are chosen to describe the solutions over the target data, such as Nitrogen gas pressure (N2), Turntable speed (TT), and Argon gas pressure (Ar), although the surface roughness had been chosen being a result response of the Titanium nitrite (TiN). Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM) tools were applied to describe the roughness of coating layer. Within this research, a process of modelling using Response Surface Method (RSM) was applied for surface roughness of Titanium Nitrite (TiN) coating to get a best result. Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) was applied as an optimization technique for the coating process to enhance characteristics of thin film roughness. In validation process, different experimental runs of actual data were conducted. It was found that residual error (e) is less than 10, to indicate that the model can accurately predict the surface roughness. Also, PSO could reduce the value of coating roughness at reduction of ≈ 48% to get a minimum value compared to actual data
